Dallas Cowboys News

2007 Dallas Cowboys Preview:
Get the inside scoop on "Big D" in NFL expert handicapper Dave Price's 2007 Dallas Cowboys Preview for “Big D” hasn’t had a ten win season since 2003 and has the Dallas Cowboys at 25 to 1 odds to win Super Bowl XLII. With the Big Tuna out, can the boys surge forward or will the loss of Parcells prove to be more of a burden than Jerry Jones expected?

Many, including myself, are curious to see how new offensive coordinator Jason Garrett fares in his first rodeo as the Dallas Cowboys play-caller, though you shouldn't be surprised if tight end's coach Tony Sparano, often confused with Tony Soprano, has a significant influence on the design of the offense. With four years of NFL experience, Sparano is no newcomer to the offensive intricacies of professional football, having served as an offensive assistant, offensive line and tight ends coach during his time in the NFL. He helped produce the team's sound run game, molding the 1-2 punch of Julius Jones and Marion Barber, and even called plays for a successful, though erratic, passing game.

Tony Romo must play with more command over the offense. He’s not going to be able to back down from Terrell Owens’ fits. Working closely with Garrett and operating behind an improved offensive line gives us a vote of confidence that he will continue to improve.

Defensively there are differences between the 3-4 defense Bill Parcells ran and the one Wade Phillips brings to Dallas. As much as I like and respect Parcells, Phillips’ version of the 3-4 will likely suit this team better. The “Phillips 3-4” is a more aggressive version of the defense. It allowed the Chargers to produce 61 sacks in 2006. If we see that kind of production from Dallas this season, they would win the East.

Phillips and defensive coordinator Brian Stewart, his right hand man in San Diego, will focus on getting more production out of the front line with more slants and less two-gapping. Also, expect more blitzing and less two-deep coverage from the secondary. This scheme could maximize the output of the defensive linemen, and it could turn outside linebacker DeMarcus Ware into a superstar. Phillips will try to use Ware the same way he did Shawne Merriman in San Diego. He along with first round draft pick Anthony Spencer should put some Big “D” back in Dallas.

Ultimately, the success of this season will be judged on the improvements of Tony Romo under the tutelage of Jason Garrett and on the defense under the watch of Wade Phillips. There’s no doubt in my mind that the defense gets better and more electric but a sophomore slump could be inevitable from Romo. If he does play up to snuff, there’s no question that this team has the talent to make the playoffs -- even without Parcells.

The Fort Worth Cosmetic Surgery group would like to wish the Dallas Cowboys good luck during thier season.

Dallas Cowboys: Not Trading Felix Jones Could Be Biggest Offseason Move The rumor mill was running rampant this offseason about a possible trade involving Felix Jones. At first glance, it seemed logical that perhaps the Cowboys were plotting the move in the hopes of landing Doug Martin or another back, while at the same time having a contingency plan due to Jones' impending 2013 free agency. Nothing came to fruition and management shot down any rumors of the trade ...

Dallas Cowboys: In or out? So there's this series running on our networks called "5 In, 5 Out," and it's based on the fact that, in each of the last 16 NFL seasons, at least five teams have qualified for the playoffs that did not qualify the season before. This week, they're examining five teams that didn't make the playoffs last year and discussing whether they will this year. Next week, they'll look at five teams that ...

Dallas Cowboys: Is Tony Romo an Underrated NFL QB? Whether he intended to or not, former NFL quarterback Brett Favre brought up a debate many have waged over the last several years when he sat down to speak with Deion Sanders for an NFL Network Interview this week.  When asked about Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo , Favre said that Romo was the player most like him in the NFL today. He also added this,  via "It's Dallas. And much ...

Dallas Cowboys: 10 Reasonable Expectations for Team This Season Jerry Jones says "the window is closing," and he expects his Dallas Cowboys to win now. Philadelphia Eagle fans usually retort something about the Cowboys never having a window in the first place, and they expect another seemingly promising season that fails to live up to expectations. Ah, there's that word again—expectation. What exactly are the expectations for the 2012 version of the Dallas ...

Dallas Cowboys: 7 Role Players Who Need to Step Up in 2012 The Dallas Cowboys' starting lineup is one of the most talented in the NFL , but in order Dallas to find playoff success, the role players will have to step up and contribute, too.  Few teams in the league have the talent to match the Cowboys' starting 22. However, the difference between the top-flight teams and Dallas has been the players behind the first-teamers. In the past, when a Cowboys ...

What the Dallas Cowboys Need from Anthony Spencer in 2012 Few Dallas Cowboys have taken as much heat in recent years as Anthony Spencer has, but much of the criticism directed at the former first-round pick is less than fair.  Fans and media expect more sacks from Spencer, which isn't totally unreasonable. Surely, even he's disappointed with the fact he has just 21.5 quarterback takedowns in five seasons.  Yet since he became a full-time starter in ...

Stats That DON'T Matter: 3 Overblown Dallas Cowboys Stats to Ignore Sometimes statistics can tell a story. Other times, they tell only part of a story. And on some occasions, they're absolutely useless. While the majority of football statistics carry at least some meaning, here are three particular stats from 2011 that Dallas Cowboys fans can safely ignore heading into 2012:   Yards Per Carry I'm not saying the Cowboys shouldn't be happy that their team averaged ...

Dallas Cowboys: Is Tony Romo Under the Same Amount of Pressure as LeBron James? Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo is beginning to be compared to the Miami Heat's LeBron James , but is it fair to mention both in the same breath? Now that James has finally won an NBA Finals series, and brought home the Finals MVP Award to boot, the pressure to bring home a championship must switch to someone else in the sports world.  Former Cowboys wide receiver and NFL Hall-of-Famer ...

Dallas Cowboys Trying to Fuel Rivalry with Birthday Tweet to Michael Vick? The Dallas Cowboys sent Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick a congratulatory birthday tweet , adding they “can’t wait til November.” The tweet included a picture of linebacker DeMarcus Ware wrapping up Vick for a sack, something Ware did six times in the two contests against Philly. It was Vick who got the last laugh though, as the $100 million man led the Eagles to two big victories ...

49ers' defense wants sustained elite status The absurdity of the San Francisco 49ers going 14 games without allowing a rushing touchdown met its match in how the streak ended. A blocked punt delivered possession to Seattle at the 49ers' 4-yard line in the final seven minutes of a Week 16 game at CenturyLink Field. Marshawn Lynch ran it in. A week later, Rams quarterback Kellen Clemens scored on an 18-yard scramble that matched the longest ...

San Francisco 49ers’ Linebacker Patrick Willis Number 10 on NFL Top 100: Fan Reaction Finally, after watching spot by spot announced on the NFL Top 100 Players of 2012, Patrick Willis of the San Francisco 49ers has earned his spot on it. Seeing several other players make the list only meant that the 49ers' team leader and perennial Pro Bowler would be ranked high on the list. Willis came in at number 10 on the list and while being the tenth best player in the league is an honor ...

Court fight begins over $30M for 49ers stadium The San Francisco 49ers are asking a judge to decide if Santa Clara County can redirect $30 million originally earmarked for the team's new stadium for other uses.

Can San Francisco 49ers’ Alex Smith Lead Team to Super Bowl? Fan Question Earlier this week, I wrote an article which featured my projection of the San Francisco 49ers' 2012 regular season record based on history and their upcoming schedule. I had the 49ers going 11-5 on the year and based upon said history, have the 49ers possibly winning the Super Bowl. (In three of the four previous times the 49ers have won 13 games in a season they have either won the Super Bowl ...

NFL No. 10 Player Patrick Willis Has Ability to Lead San Francisco 49ers to Super Bowl COMMENTARY | The San Francisco 49ers will go as far as their quarterback can take them, and given his status as the league's best at his position, a Super Bowl title is well within reach for he and his team.

San Francisco 49ers’ LaMichael James Joins Team, Discusses Aspirations: Fan Reaction Of all the players the San Francisco 49ers selected in the 2012 NFL Draft, the one name that holds the attention of the nation is running back LaMichael James. As many of you know James garnered recognition from the national media while playing for the high profile Oregon Ducks football program in the NCAA's Pac-12 conference. He was widely recognized as a constant offensive threat who could ...

49ers blog: Tuesday hearing set for disputed stadium funds In what the 49ers called "a positive first step," a Sacramento Superior Court judge today ordered Santa Clara County to hold $30 million of disputed funds until a Tuesday hearing. The 49ers filed suit against the county Wednesday, and the request for a temporary restraining order was the first step.
