More About New Orleans Saints vs. Dallas Cowboys

Mark down this past Sunday as the day Reggie Bush scored four touchdowns and lit up the NFL and his new home town. The Saints rookie had been having a nice season, playing a complementary role in the newly charged Saints´ offense but nothing Reggie Bush-esque.

Four touchdowns for Reggie Bush in a 34-10  victory over the 49ers. As written by the San Francisco Chronicle, he was faster than a “fleeing FEMA promise” and showed power hadn´t surfaced in past games.

Then, in the second quarter, Reggie´s lightning struck. With the Saints trailing 3-0, Reggie Bush delivered a touchdown drive that he stamped with a 14-yard gain on a swing pass, skirting around people, through defenders, through people and out of the grasp of defenders, powering down to the 1-yard line -- the day´s best example of what the Saints fans have been wanting to see since draft day. Reggie Bush displayed unreal speed and “lights out” quickness.

Until his 74-yard gain on a little screen pass in the fourth quarter with which he ran so fast the ball couldn´t keep up with him, Reggie Bush did not have large numbers. He just had touchdowns: 1-yard on a dive yards on a run around end that showed his startling quickness, and 5 yards on a shovel pass.

After the 74-yard pass and run, Reggie finished the drive with a 10-yard dash around the left end and that ended with another dive for a touchdown.

He finished with 10 rushes for 37 yards and three TDs and had 9 catches for 131 yards and 1 TD.

Mike McKenzie ended a 25-game drought with his first interception since Week 1 in 2005. Then, he followed with another. Both of them were spectacular diving catches and provided a huge momentum boost for the Saints defense. None of the Saints´ cornerbacks have had an interception this season.

Most running backs have two or three ways to beat a defense, but against the 49ers, Reggie Bush was a greyhound and a sledge hammer.

Deuce McAllister was the reliable workhorse of the Saints running backs with substantial 136 yards on 26 carries. McAllister and Reggie Bush give the Saints the best 1-2 running punch in the NFL.

The fans shouted "REG-GIE, RED-GIE as the rookie sent them to a happy place.

"In a way we were all waiting for that breakout game." said Saints quarterback Drew Brees. "Coming out of college, he´s used to running circles around people, but it´s more difficult at this level."

Reggie Bush doesn´t do it alone because he benefits from an offense created by rookie coach Sean Payton.\, an offense averaging more than 400 yards per game.

Brees´ personal streak of five straight 300-yard passing games came to an end. Brees was 17of-28 for 185 yards as a passer and worked with wide receiver Marques Colston, who was inactive for the second straight with a high ankle sprain, and Joe Horn, who went out early with another groin aching. Devery Henderson sarted in place of Colston and dropped the first two passes thrown to him. :Devery doesn´t have soft hands," said Hokie Gajan, former Saints running back and team scout. "Whe the ball hits his hands it makes a smacking noise."

Horn and Colston should return against Dallas Sunday night.

Former Saints Dome Patrol linebacker Pat Swilling was in the Saints locker room after the game. "Reggie´s as good as Barry Sanders, said Swilling who played with Sanders at Detroit. "Reggie Bush is probably a step faster than Barry because he´s younger. He´s got speed I haven´t seen in a long time. He´s exciting. Wait til he really starts to see stuff. People say he´s undersized, but look at the biceps on that guy. He challenges people head on and run over them, if he can´t run around you/ He doesn´t really know what he´s got."

One thing Reggie Bush has is modesty.  He was low key after the game and credited his teammates for helping him understand the beauty of patience during his struggles. He singled out his blockers, he gave credit to Payton for creative offense and he brought it all back full circle to people in the Big Easy.

Reggie Bush´s parents and his high school coach were in the Superdome for the game. His parents were attired in Reggie´s Saints jersey No. 25.

"How he played today," said Saints left tackle Jammal Brown, "that´s Reggie Reggie Bush right there."

Several hours after the game in the Superdome, Reggie Bush entertained five children from the Make-A-Wish Foundation. He has his picture taken with them and steered remote control Hummers through the five guests and their families.

"Our whole season is dedicated to the city of New Orleans," said Reggie Bush. "So for us, at the end of the day, it´s really about them.

What more can you ask of a rookie? In this case, more R-e-g-g-i-e   B-u-s-h  performances such as against the 49’ers, that’s all.

The 8-4 Saints are 6 1/2-point underdogs to the Cowboys Sunday night in the Texas Stadium. Both teams are in tight division races and this game could have added significance because it could serve as a tiebreaker for home-field advantage in the playoffs. The Saints and the Cowboys have 8-4 records and in a sense is a battle between America’s Team Old versus America’s Team New..

Dallas coach Bill Parcells is a magician. He solved the Pokes´ quarterback problems by starting Tony Romo and landing kicker Martin Gramatica to take over as kicker. He delivered the game-wiining field goal against the Gaints on Sunday.

Will another team of destiny ride in Texas Stadium and steal the spotlight before a national television audience?

Payton left Dallas last offseason to become the Saints’s coach. He learned Parcells´ defensive schemes and coaching tendencies. Can he relay them to Brees, Reggie Bush and McAllister? Or will Parcells outcoach his former pupil?

One thing is certain, the NFL coach-of-the-year honor is Payton´s to lose.

The Saints are intelligent and disciplined and I´m picking them to beat the Cowboys, 27-24.

Reggie Bush News

Reggie Bush doesn't need to look far for inspiration Dolphins tailback Reggie Bush scored two rushing touchdowns in Sunday's 20-9 victory over the Redskins While the quarterback of his present team was explaining why the Miami Dolphins offense is finally transforming red zone opportunities into touchdowns, the player who scored them on Sunday stood 10-feet away leering at the offense of his former team.

Miami Dolphins’ Reggie Bush pleased with active role Two snapshots of Dolphins running back Reggie Bush : firing the ball high into the Sun Life Stadium seats after his 18-yard run put the game away; and, standing at the podium for his postgame media session, pausing at the start for a few seconds as he watched his former team, New Orleans, kick the winning field goal against Atlanta on a TV over his right shoulder.

Noisemakers: Reggie Bush one of five must-buys for playoff push With so many owners with an eye toward the future and league trade deadlines nearing, we're temporarily abandoning the traditional Noisemakers format to bring you five widely-owned, but underappreciated, players playoff-minded owners should strongly consider dealing for. Each could be a cornerstone on championship rosters. (Note: Numbers next to each team denote points allowed rank) Reggie Bush ...

Reggie Bush Fantasy: Dolphins RB Making Bid For Featured Spot Reggie Bush has been a bit of a fantasy bust throughout his NFL career. With a second straight strong performance, though, maybe he's not such a lost cause after all. The Miami Dolphins running back rushed for 92 yards on just 13 carries and scored a touchdown to help lead his team to emphatic win over the AFC West-leading Kanas City Chiefs . Just for good measure, Bush also had three catches ...

Dolphins’ offensive player to watch: Reggie Bush How he beats you: At his best when playing in space, the 6-foot, 203-pound Bush is startling to settle in with the Dolphins and is being used in a variety of ways. He has great speed, agility and elusiveness. He’s a good route-runner and has good hands. Bush leads the Dolphins in rushing with 88 carries for 427 yards (4.9 yards per carry) and a touchdown. He also has 24 catches for 164 yards and ...

Can Reggie Bush Save Tony Sparano's Job with Miami Dolphins? Reggie Bush will have no impact on the job status of Tony Sparano, who is pretty much a lame-duck coach. Sparano could win every game the rest of this season and still be out of a job. The Miami Dolphins will be making some major changes in the offseason. With the possibility of changes from top to bottom, Sparano will only be the first causality of this terrible season. I have always felt that ...
