Boonton man scores big with Super Bowl tickets

Good stories only happen to people who know how to tell'em, so Fred Bona has a million.

But none top this one. The one about how he got tickets for tomorrow's Super Bowl.

"Oh, this is a great story," Bona begins by phone from Florida. "You got a few minutes?"

Bona is a "snowbird" who leaves the winters of North Jersey behind for a few months of tennis in sunny Bonita Springs, Fla. At 68, the retired vice president of corporate communications for WR Grace never misses a match.

"I play every day."

Some days are better than others. Like two Wednesdays ago, the week Bona's Giants beat the Green Bay Packers, in the NFC Championship game.

"I'm a big New York Giants fan. I've been a season ticketholder since the Meadowlands opened. What was it, 1976?

"Let me tell you a story about those tickets ...

"Our first seats were way, way up at the top of the stadium over the east end zone of the stadium. And every year I put in for an upgrade but never got one. So a few years go by, and I'm at a charity event with Wellington Mara. We get to talking and I tell him about the upgrade situation. He says, 'Call my secretary and I'll help you out.' So we're thinking, 'Great, maybe downstairs, maybe the 40-, 50-yard line!' I call the secretary, explain the situation and she says, 'Mr. Mara will take care of it.'

"So I get my upgraded ticket, and guess where I am? About 10 rows lower, still over the end zone, but on the west side of the stadium!"

You Could Win The Super Bowl! Tampa Bay Bucs We're picking them to win the NFC. Yes we are.

Top 50 Players in the NFL Today Who Will Never Win a Super Bowl I'm sorry to say it, but not everyone in the NFL retires with a Super Bowl ring.  It just doesn't happen that way.     No matter how much talent you have, it still takes a team effort to win it all. Take, for example, Dan Marino. He is arguably the greatest passer to ever play the game, but he was never able to carry his team to the promised land. Blame it on his supporting cast or simply on him ...

Reggie Bush News

Reggie Bush a hit with Dolphins fan The last time the Dolphins were in their stadium, fans were chanting for somebody else’s quarterback so you know the locals intend to be no easy marks this season. That’s why it was significant when the same home crowd came together for a different, much more upbeat chorus in the first half of Friday night’s preseason game.

Reggie Bush runs at the speed of hope Dolphins' New Back Shows Speed In 20-10 Preseason Win Reggie Bush was your man in the Dolphins' 20-10 preseason win against Carolina on Friday night. He's this season's chance for electricity. He's the only chance, really, which is another matter entirely about this off-season's manueverings.

Feeling for Miami: Cam Newton, Reggie Bush discuss Miami football scandal, wish ‘Canes well MIAMI — Cam Newton and Reggie Bush know what the Miami Hurricanes are going through these days. Both have gone through NCAA investigations and scandals, much like the Hurricanes are facing now that a convicted Ponzi scheme architect has spoken out and said he provided 72 players with cars, money, gifts and even prostitutes at times between 2002 and 2010. Bush calls the Miami situation “terrible ...

Reggie Bush Weighs In On Miami Mess Cam Newton and Reggie Bush know what the Miami Hurricanes are going through these days.

Panthers vs Dolphins: Reggie Bush's Performance Crucial for Miami Offense Reggie Bush is in a very precarious position this season with the Miami Dolphins. He was one of the best college football players many of us have ever seen, but his flare for the dramatic has hurt his NFL career to this point. He needs to show he has the ability to be a true running back this preseason, starting against Carolina, if he wants to have any chance to start in this league. There are ...

Panthers vs. Dolphins: Reggie Bush Will Emerge as Starter in Dolphins Debut The Dolphins need Reggie Bush to have a good year. Ronnie Brown is now and Eagle while Ricky Williams is in Baltimore. That leaves Miami without their two leading rushers from the 2010 season. Enter Reggie Bush. Bush will not be a workhorse running back for the Dolphins. He won't survive the type of workload that Adrian Peterson gets in Minnesota. Bush wasn't really a serious workhorse when he ...

(Updated) Reggie Bush makes a quick impact for Miami Dolphins offense So this is what Reggie Bush can do for an offense.
