Alicia Keys, Jordin Sparks and Tom Petty Go Super Bowling

Super Bowl weekend is the biggest and most American weekend of the year, and the athletes performing in the big game aren't the only stars getting ready for the show.

On Thursday, the stars set to perform this Sunday aligned to tell the press who they're rooting for and what to expect.

Season six American Idol winner Jordin Sparks, a native of Glendale, Arizona - the site of this year's game - will be singing the national anthem on Sunday. The 18-year-old told the press she was rooting for the New York Giants. That came as no surprise, as her father Phillippi Sparks played for the Giants for 8 seasons in the '90s. But he never made it to the big game.

Jordin told the press that when she informed her dad that she would be singing "The Star-Spangled Banner," he responded "At least one of us made it."

Alicia Keys sat next to Sparks at the press conference. She was also tabbed to perform before the kick-off, though it's currently unclear what she'll perform. A native New Yorker, Keys told reporters: "Even I, who might think the Mighty Ducks and Penguins are playing, love the Super Bowl." We're pretty sure she's rooting for the Giants as well.

Tom Petty, who's been given the duty of entertaining the crowd and fans at home during a 12-minute halftime performance, didn't give any hint as to whom he's cheering for.

"I'm for everybody," he said.

He didn't say what presidential candidate he was supporting either, even though Hilary Clinton has recently been using his "American Girl" as a theme song.

"We're not endorsing any candidates. You wouldn't want to take a guitar player's advice," Petty said.

Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers are the latest to take the halftime stage in a long tradition of high-profile performers. Last year Prince performed amidst heavy rain, the year before it was the Rolling Stones in Detroit, and the year before that, Paul McCartney. Of course, four years ago Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake did their thing onstage, introducing the world to the term "wardrobe malfunction." MTV has not produced the halftime show since
